  Executive Summary

DiscAbilities is a 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the application of flying disc sports and activities as therapeutic recreation for people of all ages and physical abilities.

During the past 20 years, we have developed programs that offer "accessible" therapeutic fun for people with special needs. We provide a platform that enhances physical and social development for "at-risk youth" and people with disabilities of numerous types and degrees. Our programs enhance coordination, dexterity and teach competitive cooperation as well as other essential social skills.

Funds are needed for general operating expenses, to expand existing programs and for the development of new initiatives. DiscAbilities will use funds to make its programs available to more "at-risk" youth and "special needs" populations in public schools and Parks & Recreation centers throughout the NYC area. DiscAbilities will continue to provide workshops in The Hunter College/Easter Seals program "Project HAPPY", a recreational therapy program which our disc pros helped to start in 1981. We will continue to provide our summer camp programs to the NYC's "Kids Island Camp" for urban youth.

We are working to establish a permanent outdoor facility in New York City, devoted to disc sports including: Disc Golf, Ultimate (the extremely popular high school and college team sport), etc. Our proposed site would also support non-disc activities including: other outdoor field games and sports, drawing and painting, gardening, as well as a quiet area dedicated to reading or doing school work.

DiscAbilities develops, maintains and expands its programs and community through this website. For related products and publications, click here. If you want to be a part of our community, please click here and let us keep you informed of upcoming developments and events.
